Yapahuwa kingdom

Yapahuwa Rock Fortress is one of the most important historical places in Sri Lanka. It is located in the North Western Province, near at Kurunegala. Yapahuwa was once the capital of Sri Lanka in the 13th century.

King Buvanekabahu made Yapahuwa his capital. He built it as a strong fortress to protect the country from foreign invaders. The fortress was built on a large rock, rising about 90 meters above the ground. This made it very safe and easy to defend.

One of the most beautiful features of Yapahuwa is its stone staircase. The staircase is decorated with carvings of lions, elephants, and other designs. At the top of the rock, there was a palace and a temple. Yapahuwa was also an important religious place because the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha was kept there for a some time.

Yapahuwa shows the great architectural skills of ancient Sri Lankans. Today, it is a popular tourist attraction. Many local and foreign visitors come to see its beauty and learn about its history.

In conclusion, Yapahuwa is a valuable part of Sri Lanka’s heritage. It reminds us of our rich history and culture.
