Punchi World's End In Hulangala

This beautiful and breathtaking spot known as Hulangala Punchi World’s End is located at the southern end of the Knuckles mountain range, within the Selagama estate, and can be reached from Kurunegala or Matale. This mountain is also known as Nawagala.

When traveling from Kurunegala towards Dambulla, you should proceed up to the Talgodapitiya junction and then turn towards the Yatawatta road. This place isituated on the boundary of the Kurunegala District.

 Those who enjoy hiking can climb up from the Maduragoda side in Kurunegala. Although it is commonly referred to as being in Kurunegala, it is not entirely so. If you look closely, only the lower part belongs to Kurunegala, while the other part of Hulangala actually belongs to Matale. The total distance from Kurunegala is about 40 kilometers.

 

To be precise, the mountain itself is located within the Kurunegala District, but the lower slopes fall under the Matale District. Therefore, it is possible to drive up to the mountain through the Selagama estate (most people use this estate route to climb the mountain). However, the ownership of the mountain belongs to Kurunegala.

At the estate entrance, a certain fee is charged for vehicles. From the line houses of the Selagama estate, the viewpoint can be reached by walking about 2–3 kilometers. However, motorbikes, three-wheelers, and 4×4 vehicles can go all the way up to the viewpoint. Since it is possible to travel by vehicle, it feels like a unique and different experience. Even when going by vehicle, the surroundings remain beautiful, with tea plantations and mountains on both sides of the road, allowing you to fully enjoy the natural scenery.
